Low-E Glass Systems
Preservation replacement windows are dual-glazed, which means that each window features two individual panes of glass separated by a spacer system. These panes of glass are low-emissivity glass, often simply called Low-E glass. As such, they are coated with many microscopic layers of metal that reflect the sun’s rays rather than absorbing them and transferring heat into the home.
Gas Fills
Between these two panes of Low-E glass is a pocket of invisible gas (either argon or krypton depending on which glazing system you choose). The primary job of this gas fill is to serve as a layer of insulation. However, since these inert gases are denser than air, they also help dampen exterior noises, giving you more peace and quiet in your home.
Insulated Frames
The frames of Preservation replacement windows provide excellent insulation. Not only are they made from high-quality vinyl, which has natural insulating properties, but they also feature insulating material inside the frame. The vinyl extrusions are filled with high-density polyisocyanurate (the same kind of insulation that many freezer doors use!) which provides a virtually impenetrable barrier to heat transfer. What’s more, this insulation is pre-expanded before being applied to the insides of the frame—an extra step in the manufacturing process that helps to eliminate inconsistencies often found with other insulating methods.
Weatherstripping
The frames and sashes on these replacement windows are also equipped with heavy-duty weatherstripping to maximize their energy efficiency. They feature a full meeting rail interlock and a compression bulb seal which work in conjunction to prevent air infiltration by firmly sealing up all the tiny cracks and seams in the window’s frame.
