Are New Windows Installed From the Inside or Outside?

Are New Windows Installed From the Inside or Outside

If you’ve never had new windows installed at your home, the process of removing old windows and replacing them with new ones may be completely foreign to you. One of the most common questions we receive from customers unfamiliar with the process is whether new windows are installed from the inside or the outside of the house. And the answer is, well, both…or either…or it depends…

There are some window installation companies out there that promote installation from the inside, touting it as the best or most correct way to install a window, while others do the same with outside installation. Still, others might have one technician working on the inside while another works simultaneously on the outside.  At the end of the day, it doesn’t really make much of a difference as long as the new windows are properly fit, leveled, and sealed.

Other factors usually come into play as well. For instance, when installing windows at ground level, the approach isn’t really that different whether you do it from the inside or the outside. However, when installing windows on the second or third story of a house from the outside, the installer is required to climb a ladder, and so it may be easier in this case to install the windows from inside the home. Similarly, if the terrain below the window is sloped, uneven, or not easily accessible due to landscaping, an interior installation may be easier as well as safer.
